Unravelling Ecological Secrets Through Birds

Birds are everywhere, and the simple act of counting birds can help in uncovering the effects of anthropogenic disturbances, disruption of ecosystem processes and finding solutions to urbanization. I have used birds as a model taxon for more than a decade: from studying the role of invasive species on native ecosystems to the impacts of habitat degradation on biotic communities. Join us in this webinar for an exploration of key threats (biological invasion, habitat degradation and urbanization), and how birds can help us understand the impacts of these threats.

Dancing, diving and dipping: Ecology and conservation of Himalayan river birds

Birds along rivers have fascinating adaptations, plumage, calls and foraging strategies. These have enabled them to live in complex land-water transition habitats . During her PhD, Ankita studied patterns of distribution and endemism in river birds globally. She conducted field-surveys spanning different seasons across multiple years, from 2015 to 2019 in the Western Himalaya to understand factors driving habitat selection in specialist river birds. Join in this webinar to know more about river birds, their unique ecology, threats and conservation challenges.
